Originally built in the 13th century, the Baroque-style palace was reconstructed after being damaged in World War II. Today, it houses the Hungarian National Gallery, the Budapest Historical Museum, and the National Széchényi Library. The castle sits on Castle Hill, surrounded by the Castle Quarter neighborhood, known for its medieval and Baroque architecture. Visitors can reach the castle via the Castle Hill Funicular and explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
