Only a short hike from the carpark. Even if you're not a big fan of the Harry Potter series you can still appreciate this stunning view!

The Glenfinnan Viaduct is a picturesque railway bridge located in the Scottish Highlands, built between 1897 and 1901. This iconic structure spans the River Finnan, offering stunning views of Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan Monument. Known for its appearance in the Harry Potter films, the viaduct has become a popular tourist attraction, attracting visitors from around the world. With its 21 arches and concrete construction, it stands as a testament to Victorian engineering and continues to charm all who cross its path.

2. Best Viewing Spots

Viaduct Viewpoint

  • Short 10–15 minute uphill walk from the Glenfinnan Visitor Centre car park.

  • Gets crowded — arrive early if the train is coming.

Behind the Viaduct / Track Level

  • Walk past the main viewpoint toward the viaduct base.

  • You can get epic wide-angle shots from here or film the train overhead.

Loch Shiel Viewpoint

  • Nearby trail with views of the Glenfinnan Monument and Loch Shiel, also seen in Harry Potter films.

3. Parking & Access

  • Use the Glenfinnan Visitor Centre car park (paid, gets full quickly during peak hours).

  • Overflow parking available, but may require a walk back.

  • Arrive at least 1 hour before train times in peak season (May–October).
