The MariensÀule in Vienna's Am Hof square is a column dedicated to the Virgin Mary, built in 1647 by Emperor Ferdinand III as a thank-you for divine intervention during a Swedish invasion. The original marble column was replaced with a bronze version in 1667 by Emperor Leopold I. Despite its historical significance, the column also has a quirky claim to fame for disappearing in a scene from The Third Man movie.
