Welcome to Silverton, a historic mining town tucked away high in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. You'll feel like you've stepped back into the Old West as you wander down Greene Street, with its colorful Victorian buildings and old-timey saloons. It's the perfect basecamp for adventure; in the summer, you can hop on the famous Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad or explore rugged backcountry trails, while winter brings world-class skiing for the experts. Whether you're here for the history or the high-altitude thrills, Silverton offers an unforgettable Colorado experience.

Insider Tips:

  • For the best Mexican food in Colorado, try El Bendito!

  • Silverton is home to some of the BEST hiking in Colorado! My favorite is Ice Lake. It is a hard hike so please bring the 10 essentials, watch for inclement weather and be prepared to be amazed.

  • The town is tiny, but you won't be bored if you enjoy the outdoors. Take the Durango/Silverton train for a relaxed and stunning adventure. The scenery is incredible!
