Welcome to Buena Vista, or 'BV' as we call it, a quintessential mountain town nestled at the base of the stunning Collegiate Peaks. You'll find a friendly, laid back vibe here, where the Arkansas River runs right through town, offering some of the best whitewater rafting in the country. After a day of hiking a '14er' or exploring the charming historic downtown with its unique shops and eateries, there's nothing better than soaking in one of the nearby natural hot springs as you gaze at the incredible mountain backdrop.
Insider Tips:
If you're up for a challenge, there are a number of 14-ers (14,000 ft) mountains in this area. These are intense and hard hikes. They can be dangerous so do your research before embarking on one of these hikes. If you're up for the challenge, the views can't be beat.
White water rafting in Buena Vista is top tier. I prefer River Runners for their amazing guides and emphasis on safety.
If you need a hot springs soak, Mount Princeton hot springs is only 20 minutes from BV.
If you want a spooky adventure, past the hot springs is a real ghost town! Go visit St Elmo and enjoy walking yourself through this historic ghost town.
My favorite breakfast spot is The Blend.
