You'll find Lake Estes to be a stunning mountain reservoir offering a perfect, easy going escape right at the edge of town.

A flat, paved 3.8 mile trail loops around the entire shoreline, making for a beautiful walk or bike ride with incredible panoramic views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains.

Keep your eyes peeled for the local elk herds that frequently graze by the water's edge, a truly unforgettable sight. The main trail is immediately accessible from several free parking areas, including the Visitor Center and the Lake Estes Marina.

Insider Tips:

  • Lake Estes is an excellent stop after hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. Calm those sore feet and wade into the water to your knees. (Do not go swimming!)

  • Bring a picnic and spend the day here.

  • Grab your kayak or paddleboard and spend the day on the water (for specific regulations regarding water craft usage, check out the link below)
