Escape the main crowds of Rocky Mountain National Park and discover the beauty of the Wild Basin area on the hike to Ouzel Falls. This rewarding 5.4 mile round trip trail follows the scenic North St. Vrain Creek, treating you to the sights and sounds of Copeland Falls and Calypso Cascades along the way. After a moderate, steady climb, you'll be greeted by the stunning 40 foot Ouzel Falls, a perfect spot to rest and enjoy the cool mist before your journey back down.
Insider Tips:
If you're feeling ultra energetic, you can continue past Ouzel Falls to Ouzel Lake. Make sure you have proper gear and adequate water. If you choose to go to Ouzel Lake, it will be an 11 mile hike total.
Wild Basin is much less crowded than the standard Estes Park entrance. But I still recommend starting early to avoid crowds.
HACK: Wild Basin does have timed entry permits. However, if you enter the park before 9 am (easy) or after 2 pm there is no need for a timed entry permit. You DO need a America The Beautiful national parks pass either way.
