Scout Cave is located in Snow Canyon State Park and offers a short hike through lava fields, stream beds, and up slickrock. This dog-friendly trail is perfect for a morning or evening hike during warmer months. The first section of the trail is covered with lava, which can be a bit painful to walk on. After you're through the lava field, you'll hike through a sandy wash and climb steps to make your way up to the cave.

Trail Stats for Scout Cave

Trailhead Location: Google Maps (trailhead parking lot currently under construction)

Bathrooms?: There are typically pit toilets available at the trailhead, however it is currently under construction.

Trailhead Parking Difficulty: Currently difficult because the trailhead is under construction. This is a popular area to park to access a number of trails and activities in Snow Canyon State Park, so hopefully the larger parking lots make finding a parking spot easier in the future.

Distance: 3.5 miles out-and-back

Elevation Gain: 350 ft.

Difficulty: Easy-moderate (3-4/10)

Estimated Hike Time: 1 1/2-2 hours

Fee: Parking is outside of the entrance booth, so you can pay the $3/pedestrian fee instead of the vehicle fee.

Dog-Friendly?: Yes, dogs must be leashed.

Best Seasons to Hike: Year-round
