Tipping in South Africa is customary but not complicated â hereâs a quick guide so you can come prepared with ZAR cash:
Restaurants. 10% is standard, 12â15% for excellent service. Most places accept cards â just tell them the final amount (e.g., bill R300 â âYou can make it R330 pleaseâ) and they'll add it to your bill.
Hotel staff. R20âR50 per day, per room, for housekeeping or assistance.
Drivers & guides. R100âR150 per person, per day is appreciated, more for exceptional service.
Gas station attendants. Tip R5âR10 if they pump your gas, wash windows, or check oil/tyres.
