Tipping in South Africa is customary but not complicated — here’s a quick guide so you can come prepared with ZAR cash:

  1. Restaurants. 10% is standard, 12–15% for excellent service. Most places accept cards — just tell them the final amount (e.g., bill R300 → “You can make it R330 please”) and they'll add it to your bill.

  2. Hotel staff. R20–R50 per day, per room, for housekeeping or assistance.

  3. Drivers & guides. R100–R150 per person, per day is appreciated, more for exceptional service.

  4. Gas station attendants. Tip R5–R10 if they pump your gas, wash windows, or check oil/tyres.
