Start: 9am at Lo Wu Border — early start essential

Description:

Shenzhen's cultural and intellectual centre in one day. Everything within walking distance or one metro stop of each other in central Futian. The museum that explains everything. The library that looks like an open book. The concert hall built from five elements. The CBD's most photogenic mall. And the city's best night light show to close.

Full Day Timing:

🌅 9:00am — Lo Wu Border
Earlier start gives you the museum before crowds.

🏛️ 9:45am — Shenzhen Museum
Metro directly to Civic Center Station. Wing A of the Civic Centre. Free. Open from 9am. The story of how this extraordinary city was built. Allow 75 minutes. This is the essential context for everything else you'll see today.

🚶 11:00am — Walk to Shenzhen Library
7 minute walk from the Civic Centre. Arata Isozaki architecture. The library takes an open book as its design concept — 6 floors with a collection of 4 million books. Free to enter. The plaza between the library and concert hall is your photo stop. Allow 45 minutes.

🏛️ 11:45am — Shenzhen Concert Hall
Right next door. Five element concept. Five colours. Performance venue of international level. Free to walk around the exterior. Check if any performances are scheduled during your visit.

🍜 12:30pm — Lunch at Link CentralWalk
5 minute walk. Underground mall connecting multiple metro stations. Multiple restaurant floors. Budget ¥60 to ¥100 per person. Allow 60 minutes.

🚶 1:30pm — Walk through Civic Centre plaza
The full scale of the wing-shaped roof is best appreciated on foot from the central plaza. 20 minute walk through.

2:00pm — Coffee at Link CentralWalk
Rest before the afternoon. The underground mall has multiple cafe options.

🚇 2:30pm — Metro to One Avenue
Gangxia Station — 5 minutes. Walk 5 minutes to One Avenue.

🛍️ 2:45pm — One Avenue browse
Walk the 800 metre Central Avenue. Art installations. Fashion boutiques. Independent cafes. Best photo stop — East Zone 5th floor walkway looking back over the avenue. Allow 75 minutes.

🚇 4:00pm — Walk or metro to Ping An Finance Centre
Shopping Park Station — 10 minute walk from One Avenue.

🏙️ 4:30pm to 7:00pm — Ping An Finance Centre
Book tickets in advance. Arrive for golden hour. 599 metres. Watch the city change colour as the sun drops behind the western hills. Stay until the city lights fully come on below you.

🌃 7:30pm — Civic Centre Night Light Show
15 minute walk back to Civic Centre. Show at 7:30pm, 8:30pm or 9:30pm. Free. The wing-shaped roof illuminated at night is a completely different building from what you saw this morning. Book-ending your day at the same location — morning culture, evening spectacle.

🚇 By 10:30pm — Head back to Lo Wu
Line 1 east to Luohu. Last train to Hong Kong.

End: 11pm back in Hong Kong
