Most Shenzhen metro lines stop around 11pm. Lo Wu border closes at midnight. Check the last train time at your starting station the moment you arrive — look at the sign, don't trust anyone's memory including your own.
Build 45 minutes travel buffer from wherever you are back to Lo Wu. Shenzhen is easy to lose track of time in — one more floor of Huaqiangbei, one more dish at dinner, one more fountain show.
If you miss the last train — DiDi to Lo Wu costs approximately ¥40 to ¥60 from most central locations. Or book a Shenzhen hotel and start fresh in the morning.
