Getting the Train Between Casablanca and Marrakesh
The easiest way between the two cities but know what to expect

Morocco
If your Morocco itinerary includes both Casablanca and Marrakesh (and it should) the train between the two cities is the obvious choice. The journey takes around three hours on the direct service and it is by far the easiest way to travel between the two cities without the stress of driving in unfamiliar traffic.
We took the train from Casablanca to Marrakesh and paid for first class expecting a comfortable, air conditioned journey. What we got was still very much budget travel by Australian standards. The carriages were hot, there was no air conditioning and by the time we arrived we were absolutely roasting. It is still worth doing, just go in with realistic expectations and dress accordingly.
The terminals themselves have a noticeable security presence with armed police at the entrances. It can feel a little confronting if you are not expecting it but it is completely normal and we never felt unsafe.
Pickpocketing is something to be aware of both at the terminals and on board. Keep your bag in front of you, do not leave anything on the overhead rack that you cannot afford to lose and be particularly alert in busy boarding areas when the carriages fill up quickly.
Kristina's tip: Bring water and snacks because the journey is warm and the onboard options are limited. Wear light breathable clothing regardless of the time of year. Keep your valuables close to your body throughout the journey and be aware of your surroundings when boarding. Despite all of this it is genuinely the right way to get between these two cities and the experience of arriving into Marrakesh by train is one worth having.
