Just off the main road, you'll find a fascinating piece of our history, the ancient khettaras. These are incredible underground irrigation channels that clever engineers built centuries ago to bring water to the desert. For a small fee, you can actually walk through some of the dry tunnels and get a real sense of how life was sustained here long ago. It’s a quick but truly memorable stop that shows you the ingenuity of the people who first settled this land. Our guide spoke little english, but it was such an awesome local experience! His hospitality was unbelievable, even making us a local mint tea before we left.
