Cave Stream Scenic Reserve is a famous stop on the way to or from Arthur’s Pass. You can park at the small car park just off State Highway 73. From there, it’s a short walk downhill to the start of the cave, passing over a few small streams.

The cave itself follows a stream, so you need to be prepared to get wet if you want to explore it fully. It is about 600 meters long, and many people turn around before reaching the end depending on comfort level. Even if you don’t go far inside, the scenery at the entrance and along the walk is beautiful and makes for a good stop during your drive.
