Dunedin sits on the southeastern coast of the South Island and is known for its strong Scottish roots and grand old architecture. The city has plenty of character, with Victorian and Edwardian buildings lining the streets and a mix of hills and coastline surrounding it. It’s home to one of New Zealand’s oldest universities, which gives parts of the city a lively, student feel. You’ll find a mix of cafes, small galleries, and local shops scattered around the center, though the real highlights are often just outside town. The Otago Peninsula is worth the short drive for its wild coastline and chance to see sea lions or albatross up close. Even if the city itself isn't that impressive, it’s a good base for exploring the beautiful landscapes nearby.
