Craters of the Moon is geothermal walk just outside Taupō. The loop takes you through steaming vents, bubbling mud, and hot ground that are really impressive and fun. The trail is well marked and easy for most people, with boardwalks and viewpoints along the way.

This place also has cultural meaning in Māori tradition. Geothermal areas like this are seen as powerful taonga, or treasures of the earth, and are treated with respect. You should stay on the paths for your own safety and to protect the land.

I recommend visiting in the morning whe it's not too crowded. You do not need much time here, about 45 minutes to an hour is enough.
