Waimangu Volcanic Valley is a geothermal area near Rotorua where you can walk through steaming vents, hot springs, and colorful crater lakes. The trails are well maintained, but some parts are uphill, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water.

The valley is very active geologically, so the steam, bubbling pools, and bright colors make it a great place for photos.

There is a lot of Māori history here too, as the area is connected to local stories about volcanic activity and the formation of the land. Guided tours are available if you want to learn more, but you can also explore on your own. Plan at least a couple of hours to enjoy the full loop and take in the unique scenery.
