Right behind The Church of the Good Shepherd, there’s a field that bursts with colorful lupins in late spring and early summer. The flowers cover the ground in shades of pink, purple, and blue, with the lake and mountains creating a perfect backdrop. It’s one of the most photogenic spots in Tekapo, especially early in the morning or around sunset when the light gets soft. If you’re taking photos, try getting there early in the morning to beat the crowd and getting low to frame the church or the lake through the flowers, it makes for a really nice shot. Just be careful not to trample the plants as they’re very delicate and part of what makes the place so special.
