Bushy Beach Scenic Reserve is a beautiful coastal spot that’s also home to yellow-eyed penguins. During the day, you can walk down the beach and enjoy the sand and sea, but the area closes in the evening to protect the penguins when they come ashore. Watching these shy birds in their natural habitat is a rare and special experience, so it’s important to respect the rules and keep your distance. I recommend bringing binoculars with you in the evening so you can see the penguins well from a distance.
