New Chums Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand and it still feels wild because there are no roads or buildings there. To reach it, you start from Whangapoua Beach where you can park near the small river. You need to cross the stream at the start, so it is easier at low tide. Then you walk along the rocky coastline for about 30 minutes. The rocks can be slippery, especially if they are wet, so good shoes help a lot. After the rocks, you follow a small forest track over a hill and then the beach suddenly appears in front of you. It feels like a hidden paradise.

The beach is long and golden, with clear water and green bush all around. It is a great place to relax and swim. There are no facilities at all, so bring water, snacks and everything you need.

If you want a great view, there is a little side track near the end that goes up to a lookout over the bay. It is perfect for photos.
