Cathedral Caves is an impressive set of sea caves on the southern coast of the South Island. The caves are significant to local Māori people and are considered a special place in their traditions. You reach them by a short walk through a beautiful forest that starts at the car park. At low tide you can explore inside the caves and see the towering rock formations and the waves rushing through. It is a fantastic spot for photography, especially with the light streaming in from the cave openings, and the forest walk adds a peaceful start to the visit.
