Located in Wellington, the Wētā cave is part of the Wētā Workshop, known for its work on films like "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit." There are two workshop locations in New Zealand : one in Auckland, called Wētā workshop Unleashed, and this one in Wellington. You can take guided tours to learn about the filmmaking magic behind the Lord of the Rings movies and the craftsmanship used to bring the story to life.
If you only have time for one Wētā guided tour, I would pick this one in Wellington as I think it is the most interesting one. You'll have access to plenty of costumes, weapons and models used during filming, which is always very exciting. Plus, the staff is super friendly and passionate about what they do, adding to the overall experience.
There are no pictures allowed during the tour, but you can take some in the shop, which offers a lot of souvenirs to bring home with you.
