✅ These are places I’d take my friends to. Or already have
Travel Tip by Figo · Homeoffice Madeira & Madeira Hiking
Let’s be real: there are way too many restaurant choices on Madeira – and not all of them are worth your time (or money). After five years of hiking, exploring, hosting guests, and constantly trying out new spots, I’ve built a curated list of places you really can’t go wrong with – from authentic locals-only gems to fancy fine-dining nights.
✅ These are places I’d take my friends to. Or already have.

🥘 Super Local & No-Frills – think espetadas, poncha and grandma’s stew
🌊 Oceanfront View Spots – where the view is just as good as the food
🌱 Modern Casual & Health-Conscious – great brunch, good people, veggie-friendly
🐟 Authentic Fish Restaurants – freshly grilled, salt-crusted & unforgettable
🔥 Meat & Fire – skewers, wood fire & Thursday-only grill feasts
🥑 Vegan & Vegetarian Friendly – because yes, it’s possible (and delicious)
Plano D (Funchal) – Best brunch & health food shop in one
Snack-Bar Juza (Santo da Serra) – Local meats, only Thursdays, unreal

Talho do Caniço (Funchal) – Buy meat, grill it yourself with locals
Informal (Funchal) – Creative fine dining, arrive 30 mins before Opening
Restaurante Calhau de São Jorge – Hidden in the green north, beachside
Maktub Pub (Paúl do Mar) – Sunset, cocktails, fish and soul
Las Caraibas (São Vicente) – Family-run with views & wood oven magic
👉🏼 Click here for my Google Maps list (I did not put TOO many restaurants, there are tourist traps and GREAT ones on the island. Check this list, and there will be no mistakes - I hope!)
This is the real deal – no tourist traps, no outdated reviews. Just the best of what I’ve personally tested (often more than once).
If you’re a foodie like me, or just want to make every meal count – this guide will save you hours of searching and dozens of mediocre dishes.
And if you’re missing something (vegan, romantic, hidden gem)? Just message me!
