In this travel tip, we will go over all of the different regions in this guide and how long you need in each one.
ROME: Many travellers will first arrive in Rome, the largest city in Italy. Jam-packed with mouth-watering restaurants, historical monuments, and beautiful architecture, Rome is a can’t-miss destination in Italy. TIMELINE: 3-5 days.
FLORENCE: Known for Renaissance art and architecture, Florence is a vibrant city and a great home base for exploring Tuscany. It is also an excellent place to shop for leather goods and other souvenirs. TIMELINE: 2-3 days.
VENICE: Known for being one of the most romantic cities in the world, Venice is a destination you don’t want to miss during your time in Italy. Prepare to be blown away by the charming cobblestone streets, picturesque canals, historic masterpieces, and the food! TIMELINE: 1-3 days.
TUSCANY: Tuscany is one of the most beautiful areas in the country, boasting rolling hills, historic vineyards, and natural hot springs. If possible, we would recommend renting a car to see this region of Italy. TIMELINE: 3-6 days.
THE DOLOMITES: The Italian Dolomites are located near Austria in the country’s northeast corner. This jaw-dropping mountain range is chock full of monumental peaks, turquoise blue lakes, and alpine meadows. it is an outdoor mecca that exudes an abundance of culture and charm. This was by far our favourite region of Italy! TIMELINE: 7-10 days.
CINQUE TERRE: This series of 5 colourful villages along the rugged Italian Riviera dates back to the 11th century. The diverse area boasts everything from cliffside vineyards and scenic hiking trails to bustling harbours and fantastic fresh seafood. TIMELINE: 3-5 days.
LAKE COMO: This upscale resort area is known for luxury and scenery. If you have the budget, it could be a great place to unwind after exploring The Dolomites. We did not make the trip, but we may add it in the future!
THE AMALFI COAST: This rugged stretch of coastline is famous for turquoise blue waters and sheer cliffs dotted with small beaches and pastel-coloured fishing villages. It is a popular holiday destination filled with grand villas, terraced vineyards and cliffside lemon groves. TIMELINE: 3-6 days.
CAPRI: The island of Capri, accessible by ferry from the Amalfi Coast, is known for its rugged landscape, upscale hotels and shop-lined streets. Here, you can rent a boat and cruise the coastline in search of hidden grottos, colourful reefs, and stunning rock formations. TIMELINE: 1-3 days.
SARDEGNA + SICILIA: These areas are known to be very beautiful, however, we did not get a chance to visit them. If you have extra time, they may be worth looking into!
