Breathtaking natural wonder in Germany

Partnachklamm, also known as the Partnach Gorge, is a breathtaking natural wonder located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. This 700-meter-long gorge features tunnels and caves carved into rock formations, allowing visitors to trek past trickling waterfalls while listening to the soothing sounds of a flowing river.

It's pleasantly cool in summer and transforms into a magical world of icicles in winter. The gorge is accessible year-round and offers a unique experience in every season.

Entry is €10, with tickets available online or at the entrance. Parking is available at the Olympic Ski Stadium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From there, it’s about a 30-minute walk to the gorge entrance.

It’s highly recommended to arrive early, especially on weekends, as the area can get very crowded and long wait times are common. Sturdy footwear and rain protection are essential, as the trail through the gorge is always wet and dripping from the rock walls.

Morning: Partnach Gorge (Partnachklamm)
Start your day early (from 8:00 AM) with a walk through the mystical Partnach Gorge. The rushing turquoise water, narrow rock walls, and quiet morning atmosphere create a truly magical experience. Arriving before the crowds lets you enjoy the gorge in peace – and makes for better photos, too ;)

Kaiserschmarrn-Alm

The Kaiserschmarrn-Alm is a cozy mountain hut located near the entrance to the Partnachklamm gorge in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It's the perfect spot to take a break and enjoy some delicious traditional Bavarian cuisine while taking in the stunning alpine views. Whether you're craving a hearty meal after a hike or just want to relax with a cold beer on the terrace, this rustic hut has got you covered. So, kick back, soak up the mountain vibes, and treat yourself to some Kaiserschmarrn – you won't be disappointed, it's the best here around!

Note: You can’t get here by car – access is only possible on foot or via the small Graseck cable car (valley station at the entrance of the Partnach Gorge).

For the full experience, hike through the spectacular Partnachklamm and then continue up to the hut!

Midday: Kaiserschmarrn Alm
At the end of the gorge, follow a marked path for about 20 minutes to the Kaiserschmarrn Alm. It’s a hidden gem for traditional Bavarian dishes – the Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) is a must-try! The hut offers a charming alpine atmosphere and warm hospitality.

Eckbauer

Scenic hiking at Mt. Eckbauer

Eckbauer is a small summit offering one of the best panoramic views of the Wetterstein mountains. At the top, a few benches invite you to sit down, relax, and take in the stunning alpine scenery.

You can reach the summit on foot in about 1.5 hours from the parking area at the Olympic ski jump (the trail is well-maintained but steep in parts), or comfortably via the Eckbauer cable car (daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, €26 round trip for adults).

Hike to Eckbauer
From the Alm, continue hiking up to the Eckbauer summit (approx. 1-1,5 hour, 3 km, 330 m elevation gain). Along the way, you’ll pass through shady woods. At the top, the view over the Wetterstein mountains is breathtaking – a perfect place to pause and take it all in.

Optional Break: Gasthof Eckbauer
The Gasthof Eckbauer is a great place to stop for a drink or a bite to eat with panoramic views. It’s a relaxing spot to soak up the atmosphere.

Descent: By foot or cable car
You can either walk back down or take the Eckbauer cable car for a scenic and easy descent. Both routes bring you back to the starting point near the Olympic Ski Stadium.
