🎟️ Booking Tips

  • Reserve vehicle spaces early; summer fills fast. Foot and bike passengers have more flexibility.

  • Timetables vary seasonally. Summer has multiple daily sailings, while off-season may shift to weekly or on-demand.

  • Consider scenic value: ferry crossings offer wildlife viewing with seabirds, seals, and otters, so always bring binoculars.

🚗 Onboard Guidance

  • Arrive 30 minutes early if travelling with a vehicle.

  • Passenger areas offer indoor seating and some refreshments; cabins are available on longer routes.

  • Check baggage limits as it is carry-on only for many ferries.

  • Ferry crossings are usually smooth but can be choppy; if prone to seasickness, bring medication.

🌤️ Seasonal Advice

  • Summer (May–Sept): offers the most frequent crossings and is ideal for day trips to Hoy, Westray or Sanday with wildlife and lighthouse visits.

  • Winter: fewer sailings; crossings may be delayed by weather. Add travel buffers.
