With over 400 fossilized dinosaur tracks preserved in ancient sandstone, this site is a fascinating stop for families, hikers, photographers, and anyone with a love of natural history.

Warner Valley Dinosaur Track Site
Located just outside of Hurricane, Utah, the Warner Valley Dinosaur Track Site offers an exciting glimpse into prehistoric times.

Hike Details & What to Expect

  • Distance: Less than 0.5 miles (round trip)

  • Difficulty: Easy

  • Trail Type: Out-and-back, mostly flat
The short trail begins from the parking area and leads across slickrock and sandy terrain to a dry wash where the tracks are located. Along the way, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of red cliffs, desert mesas, and colorful hills—a classic Utah landscape that feels both dramatic and peaceful.

Once at the site, you'll find distinct three-toed prints left by theropods (meat-eating dinosaurs), some of which measure over a foot long. Interpretive signs provide helpful information about the species that once roamed the area, making this an educational outing for visitors of all ages.

Best Time to Visit

  • Season: Fall, spring, and mild winter days are ideal. Summers can be extremely hot.

  • Photography: Early morning or late afternoon provides the best light for seeing the tracks and photographing the surrounding landscape.

Getting There

  • Access: The site is located southeast of Hurricane in Warner Valley. From town, follow the Warner Valley Road (unpaved but usually passable in dry conditions) for about 11 miles. A high-clearance vehicle is helpful but not always necessary.

  • Coordinates: 📍 37.0826, -113.2734

Camping Nearby

  • Dispersed Camping: BLM land surrounds the area, and dispersed camping is allowed in several pull-offs along Warner Valley Road. These spots are primitive—no services—so come prepared with water and supplies.

  • Quail Creek State Park: About 25 minutes away, this campground offers amenities like showers, fire rings, and lakeside camping spots. Great for combining your trip with water activities.

  • Sand Hollow State Park: Another nearby option, offering RV hookups, tent camping, and access to a large reservoir for swimming, boating, and paddling.

Pet Friendly
Leashed dogs are welcome on the trail and at the site, just be mindful of the heat and rough terrain during the warmer months. Carry extra water for both you and your pet.

Leave No Trace
Please do not touch or step on the fossilized tracks. They are delicate, irreplaceable windows into the past. Stick to marked paths, pack out all trash, and respect the area so future visitors can enjoy this unique piece of Utah's geological story.
