From the car park, a walk of about 15-20 minutes over rocky terrain to the edge of the magnificent Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. You can view the thundering glacial water from either the west side, which is more developed, or the east side for a more rugged, natural perspective.

Dettifoss is Europe's second most powerful waterfall, located in Vatnajökull National Park in North Iceland. Dropping meters (144–150 ft) into Jökulsárgljúfur Canyon with a massive discharge of , it is known for its incredible power and mist. It is reachable via paved road 862 (West) or gravel road 864 (East).
