Welcome to one of the most surreal landscapes in the Icelandic Highlands, a place that feels like stepping onto another planet. Hveradalir, the 'Valley of Hot Springs,' is a breathtaking geothermal area where vibrant, mineral-streaked rhyolite mountains are alive with steaming vents and bubbling mud pools. To explore its core, you'll need to 4x4 down a rugged mountain road, but the reward is an unforgettable hike through an otherworldly scene. The main trail loop, which takes about 1-2 hours from the upper car park, winds you through this raw, primordial landscape on a series of boardwalks and paths, offering incredible views at every turn. You can make this trail longer or shorter as there are several different paths.
