Vík is a tiny coastal village that serves as your staging point for Reynisfjara black sand beach and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, so it is a good spot to base yourself. You will find a supermarket, a gas station, a few cafes, campsites and guesthouses, but services are limited and rooms fill up in high season, so plan ahead. If you want photos without crowds, aim for early morning or late evening, and don’t miss the small hilltop church for a quick view over town. Weather and road conditions change fast, especially in winter, so pack waterproof layers and check the road reports before you drive on.
