Stunning but dangerous beach

Beach

Reynisfjara is a dramatic black-sand beach with basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, and it fills with tour groups, so aim for sunrise or late evening for better photos and fewer people. Take the sneaker-wave hazard seriously: waves can surge far up the shore without warning, so stay well back from the waterline and keep kids and pets close. There is a paid parking area. There was a huge event in 2026 that destroyed some of the basalt columns, so it does not look exactly like this anymore. Puffins do come to these cliffs in summer, so it will be interesting to see if they still show up.
