Piedras Rojas is a stunning natural wonder located in the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia, Argentina. Nestled at an elevation that offers spectacular views, this site is famous for its striking red rocks that contrast beautifully with the surrounding turquoise waters and the rugged volcanoes in the background. It took us about 3 hours from San Pedro in our rental truck. Happy to report the roads are good and you don't need a 4*4. There are plenty of high altitude lakes and beautiful salt lagoons on the way.
Drive straight to Piedras Rojas in the morning
to avoid the tour buses if you want good photos.
Tickets must be purchased online and checked at a station in the town of Socaire. If you don't stop at the Socaire check in they won't let you view the rocks! It makes no sense as they have a full ranger station at the rocks but they love rules. Do Not forget this as the the town is about an hour before the trail. The site opened at 9am when we were there, but double check times as they do change.
You can book your arrival slot here https://socairechile.cl/shop/ . Altitude reminder do this on the tail end of your trip because its at 4200m high.
