Foods you must try in the South of France

Here are some popular French foods and local dishes you should try - when in Rome !

Les Escargots

Snails may not seem the most appetising of the French dishes but they’re actually really nice (coming from a picky eater!) Normally you’ll find snails with a garlic-parsley butter which makes them delicious.

Niçoise salad

There’s no better place to eat this than the place it’s named after, Nice ! The salad typically has hard boiled eggs, olives and tuna.

Ratatouille

This isn’t just a Disney film it’s also a really yummy meal, and it originates from Provence in the South of France. It typically includes tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines and peppers.

Moules-frites

Mussels and fries is a classic dish to have in France, especially on the coast where it’s freshly caught.

Endless Boulangerie items…

There is so much to try in a French bakery but here’s a short list: crossiants, pain aux chocolats, les madelines, baguette tradition, mille feuille, macaron, eclair, tarte tartin and a beignet (honestly the list could go on!)

Bouillabaisse

This is a provençal fish soup originating from Marseille busting with local provençal flavourings

Tarte tropézienne

Finally if you’re heading to Saint Tropez you have to try the renowned tropezienne tart. It’s a delicious creamy brioche pastry!
