An unreal hike to a glacier that's completely free. You're not going to see many tourists here. This area is super rugged and when my friends and I went we only saw one other car camping. This is the adventurous and free alternative to the overrated Matanuska Glacier. But you have to work to get here. This isn't on the main circuit most tourists take.
There's a dirt road you can take up as far as your car allows you to go. There are small streams crossing the road and depending on the time of year or even just the weather that day you may or may not be able to get across them. Park anywhere that doesn't block the road.
From where ever you park just start hiking towards the glacier. Eventually the road will turn into a hiking trail. There's a fairly new wooden swinging bridge that allows you to cross the river and makes for some awesome pictures.
Remember this is Alaska so you can really choose your own adventure here. You can hike all the way up to the glacier or even get on it. Be careful around the ice. Don't get on the glacier unless you've been trained on how to do it safely ;)
