🐠 A Snorkeler’s Sweet Spot in Rarotonga 🐠

On the southeast coast of the island, just past Muri, there’s a stretch of lagoon known for its clear waters, colorful fish, and easy access—it’s called Fruits of Raro. Whether you’re a first-time snorkeler or someone who loves chasing reef life, this spot feels like you’ve just dipped straight into an aquarium.

🌊 What Makes Fruits of Raro Special

🐟 Vibrant Reef Life: You’ll spot parrotfish, butterflyfish, angelfish, and if you’re lucky, even a moray eel or two hiding among the coral.

🐢 Chance to See Turtles: Every now and then, you might be lucky enough to spot a sea turtle cruising through the lagoon!

🪸 Healthy Coral Gardens: Right off the beach, the reef is alive with soft corals and rock formations, making it one of the healthier snorkeling spots on the island.

🤿 Easy Entry: No boat needed—you just walk straight into the shallow lagoon from the beach.

šŸŒ¬ļø Sheltered Waters: The area is usually calm, but there can sometimes be a mild current inside the lagoon, especially when a south-easterly wind is blowing—wearing fins is recommended for extra comfort and safety.

šŸ•˜ Good to Know

🄽 Gear Rental: There’s a little shop right across the road (also called Fruits of Raro) where you can rent snorkel gear if you don’t have your own.

šŸš— Parking: Easy parking right near the beach, and usually plenty of space. (Avoid parking under coconut tree's - you will not be covered by insurance if a coconut falls and damages your rental)

šŸŒž When to Go: Best during mid to high tide for easier swimming over the reef. Morning visits often mean clearer water.

🚫 Respect the Reef: Try not to stand on coral and watch out for sea urchins hidden between rocks.

🧓 Protect the Reef: Please use reef-friendly sunscreen to help keep the coral and marine life healthy—better yet, wear a rash shirt for even better protection.
