Heimaey is the largest and most populated island in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago, located off the south coast of Iceland. With a population of around 4,500 people, it's a bustling little island known for its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife. Heimaey made headlines in 1973 when a volcanic eruption threatened to wipe out half the town, but thanks to some quick thinking and a lot of seawater, they managed to save the harbor. Today, it's a popular destination for birdwatchers, with millions of puffins flocking there every summer.
