Playing outside all day, family game nights, reading until it gets dark and watching storms together… sounds dreamy right?

But when I checked the forecast on the way to this cabin and the reality set in, my heart genuinely sank… what happens when you put us in a one room cabin with the kids, the dog, no devices or TV, and a forecast of thunderstorms and rain all weekend?? And don’t get me wrong the kids don’t get much screen time anyway, but I know there are times that I need it for my sanity and this would have been one of them.

But the whole point of this weekend away was to get away from those distractions and get back to nature and spend some real quality time with each other. So I really tried to embrace it…

And yes Shacks have designed these beautiful cabins to help you unwind and switch off, but they’re also just insanely stunning cabins. The views here and fact we had this whole meadow to ourselves was the highlight for me. And the design and finish of the interior was so simple yet beautiful, all adding to the sense of calm and peace we felt here.

The kids loved the little private bunks and kept retreating to them with their books and crafts. And they’re already asking when we can go back, but so am I… next time without my phone.
