Welcome to Ritsurin Garden, one of Japan's most celebrated landscapes and a true local treasure. Every step you take reveals a new, perfectly composed scene—a principle called 'ippo ikkei' or 'one step, one view.' With the serene backdrop of Mt. Shiun, you can wander among six distinct ponds and thirteen landscaped hills, pausing for matcha at a traditional teahouse like Kikugetsutei. It's a place designed for peaceful strolls, and you'll want to set aside at least an hour or two to soak in the tranquility. The garden requires a modest entry fee. It's open from early in the morning, and coming prior to 7am will ensure that you've got the lovely grounds to yourself.
