Higashigama is the creative studio of artist Arin Daito, who brings a distinctively feminine and contemporary perspective to the traditional world of Tobe-yaki. Moving away from the typical heavy forms of the region, this kiln is unique for its delicate, thin-walled porcelain and a soft, matte aesthetic that feels effortlessly modern. Alyne’s work is characterized by its "Komon" style—exquisite, repetitive hand-painted patterns—and her signature "Bird" and "Flower" motifs that evoke a sense of gentle warmth. By blending the centuries-old techniques of Tobe with a light, artistic touch, Higashigama produces "vessels for the heart" that are designed to bring a little bit of happiness and elegance to the quiet moments of daily life. Philippines-born Arin speaks perfect English and will happily talk you through her works if she's in the shop.
