Perched atop a hill in the city center, Matsuyama Castle is one of Japan's few original surviving castles, offering a fantastic glimpse into the past. To reach the main grounds, you can enjoy a scenic ride on a single-seat chairlift or a ropeway, though a pleasant walk up the hill is also an option. Inside the castle keep, be prepared for steep, narrow wooden stairs as you explore the multi-level structure, which rewards you with panoramic views of the city and the Seto Inland Sea from the top. The castle grounds are also a beautiful spot for a stroll, especially during cherry blossom season. You can explore the castle grounds free of charge, and if you'd like to enter the castle itself there's a modest entry fee of 400 yen.
