Deep in the heart of the Iya Valley, you'll find a truly special experience waiting for you. Here, you can learn the traditional art of soba making, starting from grinding the buckwheat seeds on a stone mill the same way it's been done in this region for generations. These stone handmills are a rarity these days, but the warm and friendly local women will guide you through the whole process, full of energy even if they can't speak English. After crafting your own noodles, you'll get to enjoy them alongside a delicious lunch of fresh, mountain vegetable tempura in a charming, traditional home. This is one of the best ways to have a wonderful, hands-on connection to the local culture.
