My hometown for the last 28 years, Truckee is a fun, historic town in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California and its downtown is full of character. Visitors to Truckee can explore the dozens of charming shops and dine at delicious restaurants set in authentic historic buildings, which are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are also numerous attractions to explore, including the story of the ill-fated Donner Party at the Donner Memorial State Park museum and Pioneer Monument, the first lumber mill, the completion of the railroad, ice harvesting, as well as the area's fame as a tourist destination and summer resort. You can learn more about Truckee's captivating history at the Truckee Visitor Center. Check out all the rest of my favorite spots in this Truckee Tahoe Visitor Guide.
