Windermere Lake in British Columbia is a popular spot for vacationers, especially those from Calgary who are just a three-hour drive away. The lake, with its average depth of 15 feet, offers a picturesque setting with the Purcell Mountains on one side and the Rocky Mountains on the other. It's got everything from cottages and camping grounds to recreational beaches and golf courses. Originally known as Lower Columbia Lake, it was renamed Windermere Lake in 1902 because it reminded someone of Lake Windermere in England. And hey, it even boasts the longest ice skating trail on the Lake Windermere Whiteway – nearly 30 kilometers of frozen fun!
