Most tourists have never even heard of Bang Pu, but it’s one of our favourite nature spots in Bangkok. It’s an excellent place for wildlife, with mudskippers (fish that can walk on land!), snakes, kingfishers, and much more regularly seen from the boardwalk through the mangroves.

There’s a bird hide at Bang Pu, where you can see a range of resident and migratory birds, including Painted Storks, Marsh Sandpipers, and Collared Kingfishers.

We prefer visiting as low tide is turning towards high tide, but for the best views of mudskippers in the mangroves, visit around low tide.

To get there, either take a taxi or take the Sukhumvit BTS line to Kheha and get on a songthaew and get off near Bang Pu Recreation Centre. They don’t always take you right up to the area, but normally they’ll drop you a maximum of 10 minutes’ walk away.
