A Zen temple famous for its two symbolic windows: the round Window of Enlightenment and the square Window of Hesitation, representing the spiritual journey. Inside, you’ll also find blood-stained ceiling panels — remnants from the relocated Fushimi Castle. A peaceful site, especially beautiful in autumn when surrounded by fiery maple trees.

The Window of Enlightenment (round) symbolizes serenity and awakening. The Window of Hesitation (square) represents human suffering.

Entrance fee: ¥500
Touristy?: Not very touristy on weekdays, but more visited during fall. Calm and contemplative atmosphere.
🌸 Best season: Autumn, stunning fall foliage.
🚆 Access: From central Kyoto, take a bus to Takagamine Genkoan-mae (approx. 30 min, ¥230).
