Kokyo is the official residence of the Emperor of Japan, located in the heart of Tokyo. Surrounded by moats, stone walls, and a vast green park, the Imperial Palace consists of several areas, some of which are open to the public, such as the East Gardens (Kokyo Higashi Gyoen).

The interior of the palace is only open to the public twice a year (New Year and the Emperor’s birthday), but guided tours of the exterior are available by reservation.
