Mogami Kogei Chopsticks Workshop (最上工芸, Tokyo)

Directions

This is one of the more refined craft experiences in Tokyo. The workshop takes place at Mogami Kogei in Kuramae, a studio founded in 1912 and known for Edo sashimono woodworking. During the session, you learn directly from third-generation master Yutaka Mogami or his son, and make your own chopsticks by choosing the wood, shaping them by hand, sanding them, and finishing them with oil. The experience also includes a short introduction to Edo sashimono and access to the workshop and showroom, so it feels more like meeting a real artisan than doing a standard tourist activity. Your finished chopsticks come in a handmade Aizu paulownia wood box, which makes it feel even more special.
