Shingon Buddhist temple founded in 1681 by Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi in dedication to his mother. Features include the main hall (hondō), Niō gate, Gekkō-den pavilion (17th century), an irimoya-style bell tower, and several buildings classified as Important Cultural Properties. Remarkably survived major fires and wartime bombings.
