Hida Kokubun-ji is a quiet Buddhist temple located a short walk from Takayama Station. It’s best known for its small three-storied pagoda and its ancient ginkgo tree, said to be over a thousand years old. I found it very easy to visit between other stops in town. The grounds are compact and calm, with a simple atmosphere that feels more local than touristic. It’s not a long visit, but it fits well into a walk around Takayama.
