Iconic district in Kawagoe, famous for its kurazukuri-style buildings—traditional Edo-period merchant warehouses made of wood and fire-resistant plaster. These two-story structures once housed traders and are now home to shops, cafés, museums, and souvenir stores. The atmosphere evokes old Tokyo, earning Kawagoe the nickname “Little Edo” (Koedo). Overlooking the street is the Toki no Kane (Bell of Time), a historic wooden clock tower and symbol of the city.

Touristy? : Very touristy. This is the heart of Kawagoe’s historic center, especially busy on weekends and during festivals.
